Community Investments

Through its strategic planning process, the United Way of the Coastal Empire has identified three primary issues of interest for community stakeholders. These focus issues serve to guide the United Way’s five-year plan to strategically allocate available resources to influence and enhance the long-term quality of life in the community.

Funding will be provided for programs that impact the work in one or more of our three priority issue areas: Education & Youth Development, Health & Wellness and Economic Independence.

1. EDUCATION & YOUTH DEVELOPMENT: Helping children and youth achieve their potential

  • Readiness to succeed in school
  • Academic Achievement
  • Productive and engaged young people
    • Target populations include those from prenatal through age 18

2. HEALTH & WELLNESS: Improving people’s health

  • Basic health coverage and prevention
  • Maternal and infant well being
    • Target populations include individuals under or uninsured, youth health and high risk health issues

3. ECONOMIC INDEPENDENCE: Promoting financial stability

  • Increase income
  • Building savings
  • Gain and sustain assets
  • Financial stability
    • Target population includes individuals with limitations to literacy, skill set development and job related issues such as transportation, child care, etc.
