Swann Seiler
Woman of the Year

Swann Seiler began her career in 1978 with Foster Wheeler Energy Corporation in Livingston, New Jersey, followed by a position in public relations with Lytton Industries’ Monroe Division in Morristown, New Jersey. In 1982, she joined Savannah Electric, where she served as Manager of Corporate Communications until the company’s merger into Georgia Power in 2006. Swann went on to serve as Manager of External Affairs for Georgia Power’s Southeast Region in Savannah, Georgia, until her retirement.
Swann earned her degree in 1978 from the Henry W. Grady School of Journalism at the University of Georgia and later served on the Grady Board of Trust. She was the first woman to serve as President of the University of Georgia National Alumni Association, holding the position from 2005 to 2007. She is an emeritus member of the UGA Athletic Association Board of Directors and the University of Georgia Foundation, and has also served on the UGA Library Board of Visitors.
In 2001, the inaugural year of the honor, Swann received the Southern Company–University of Georgia Distinguished Alumni Award. She is a graduate of Leadership Savannah (1984) and Leadership Georgia (1991).
Throughout her career, Swann has been deeply involved in civic and community leadership. She served as past chair of the Telfair Museums Board of Trustees and held board or leadership roles with the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the State of Georgia, the Chatham County Public Schools Foundation, the 200 Club of the Coastal Empire, and the Savannah Sports Council, where she served as chair. She has also been a member of the Savannah Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Rotary Club of Savannah.
Swann served eight years on the City of Savannah’s Historic District Board of Review. She is past president of Senior Citizens, Inc., a former board member of Bethesda Academy, and chaired the United Way of the Coastal Empire Campaign in 1998. She has also served on the Board of Curators for the Georgia Historical Society.
Her service includes consecutive terms on the Georgia Women of Achievement Board and the Georgia Humanities Council. She is past president of the Junior League of Savannah, former president of the Girl Scout Council of Savannah, and former chair of the Chatham–Effingham Regional Library System Board. In April 2009, she was honored with the Women of Distinction Award by Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia.
Swann resides in Savannah’s historic district and remains an active member of Lutheran Church of the Ascension. Her family has raised and cared for the University of Georgia’s famed English Bulldog mascots for nearly 70 years.
