Partnering with
Share the Magic Foundation

Author and Super Bowl Champion Malcolm Mitchell founded Share the Magic Foundation in 2016 to transform the lives of children through literacy. Through free virtual reading challenges, impactful school events, and Read with Malcolm literacy programs, children are introduced to book ownership and inspired to read.

Reading Rally

Along with our partners, United Way is proud to bring Malcolm Mitchell’s Reading Rally to every 2nd-grade student in our region. The Reading Rally is an hour-long program that combines a traditional author’s visit and a high-energy pep rally with Malcolm Mitchell! Through a truly innovative reading experience with a real magician, students receive one of Malcolm’s books. Schools also receive a Teacher’s Guide and an animated video of Malcolm reading the book for continued classroom engagement.

Why is it important?

Reading proficiency and literacy are vital to the success of our community. Children with reading difficulties are more likely to experience health and behavioral problems, teen pregnancy, premature departures from school, trouble sustaining employment, and even poverty.

61% of low-income families do not have any books in their homes in the United States

2/3 of Georgia’s third-graders are not reading on grade level

By age 10, a child’s path to success is determined by their reading proficiency

United Way of the Coastal Empire is bettering our community—one book at a time!
