SAVANNAH, GA (December 16, 2024)– The Chatham County Hospital Authority (CCHA) Trust is proud to announce a total of $1 million in grant awards to four nonprofit organizations to provide health care services to the indigent population in Chatham County, Georgia, through a competitive grant-making process.  

Grant Awards include: 

  • J.C. Lewis Primary Health Care Center, Inc. – $250,000 
  • Curtis V. Cooper Primary Health Care, Inc. – $250,000 
  • MedBank Foundation, Inc. – $250,000 
  • Hospice Savannah, Inc. – PACE Georgia – $250,000 

This is the first year of grants from the CCHA Trust which was established in 2017 to provide health care services to the indigent population of Chatham County, Georgia.  The CCHA Trust partnered with United Way of the Coastal Empire (UWCE), a seasoned community grantor, to administer and facilitate the grant process, while CCHA retained full decision-making authority for the grant awards.   

Grant Focus Areas included: 

  • Behavioral and mental health services  
  • Health screenings  
  • Dental hygiene care 
  • Specialty care services (e.g. diabetes)  
  • Patient advocacy and navigational resources

ABOUT THE CHATHAM COUNTY HOSPITAL AUTHORITY TRUST  

 The Chatham County Hospital Authority Trust (“Trust”) was established as of November 28, 2017, to provide health care for the indigent residents of Chatham County, Georgia. The Trust will be operated to comply with the relevant provisions of Official Code of Georgia Annotated (“O.C.G.A.”) Section 31-7-70, et seq., including but not limited to the requirements of O.C.G.A. Section 31-7-75.1 (“Hospital Trust Statute”). The Trust is exempt from federal income tax under the provisions of Section 115 of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended.  

 ABOUT CHATHAM COUNTY HOSPITAL AUTHORITY 

 Chatham County Hospital Authority was created as a public body corporate pursuant to provisions of the Hospital Authorities Law of 1941 and established and reconstituted by Chatham County under resolutions of Commissioners of Chatham County, dated October 17, 1952, October 24, 1952, and November 6, 1954.
